Abstract

C 10H 10O 3 crystallises in the monoclinic system, space group P2 1/ n, with a = 19.708(3), b = 7.167(2), c = 6.298(2) Å, β = 84.2(2)°, V= 885.02 Å 3, Z = 4, D c = 1.34 Mg m −3 and μ(Cu- Kα) = 7.81 cm −1. The structure has been solved by direct methods and refined by full-matrix least-squares to R = 0.0528 for 1397 observed reflections. The two mean ring planes form an angle of 132.8° and the lactone ring is in the envelope conformation.
