Abstract

The coupling of [Ru(CO) 2L(η 4-cot)] (L = CO or PPh 3, cot = cyclooctatetraene) with [Fe(CO) 3(η 5-cyclohexadienyl)] + or [Fe{P(OMe) 3}(NO) 2(η 3-allyl)] + yields respectively the dimetallic species [Ru(CO) 2L(η 2,η 3-C 8H 8{Fe(CO) 3(η 4-C 6H 7)}] ( 3) and the allyl-substituted derivative [Ru(CO) 2L(η 5-C 8H 8CH 2C(Me)CH 2)][PF 6] ( 5) whose X-ray structure is reported; paramagnetic [Co(η-C 5H 5) 2] and [Ru(CO) 3(η 5-cyclohexadienyl)] + give diamagnetic [Ru(CO) 3(η 4-C 6H 7C 5H 6( o-C 5H 5)] ( 8) via CC bond formation and one-electron reduction.
