Abstract

SummaryZ-contrast high-angle annular dark field image intensities were computed for ZnS and InSb. We compare results obtained by the frozen phonon approximation with a thermal diffuse scattering (TDS) absorptive potential method. We find that the TDS absorptive potential approach in the local approximation deviates by less than 4 % from the frozen phonon approximation. Finally, we suggest a method to use absorptive potentials in the local approximation for computing the contribution from TDS to the image intensity in conventional parallel illumination mode.
