Abstract

Recent advances in material engineering and gene editing techniques have now made it possible to use sheeted stem cells as distributors of therapeutic factors in clinical practice (e.g., as beating sheets for patients with heart failure). In this issue, Park etal. report the effects of sheets of genome-engineered human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells in preserving kidney function after ischemia-reperfusion injury, demonstrating a possible application for acute kidney injury treatment.
