Abstract

Oct-4 is a transcription factor, molecular marker for pluripotent cells and plays an essential role in maintaining the undifferentiated state necessary for cell pluripotency. It is well known that this protein is expressed in embryonic stem cells, germ cells and in embryo at various stages of development. Furthermore, it has been recently found in the epithelial cells of normal endometrium. We tested the expression of the Oct-4 and c-kit, both marker of stem cells, in the ectopic endometrial tissue of endometriotic lesions.
