Abstract

To improve the wear and oxidation resistance of IN718 (Inconel 718) superalloy under severe conditions, a series of Stellite3 matrix composite coatings containing Ti3SiC2/Cu were prepared by laser cladding. Further, the phase compositions, microstructure, microhardness, oxidation and tribological behaviors were systematically studied. The results indicated that the coatings' microhardness is 1.8–2.5 times higher than the IN718, and the wear rates decreased obviously at room temperature, with the Stellite3–5%Ti3SiC2–10%Cu coating performing the best wear resistance. In addition, under high temperatures, the oxidation rate constant and wear rate of Stellite3–10%Ti3SiC2 coating are 2.7065 mg2·cm−4·h−1 and 6.09 × 10−5 mm3/N·m with better oxidation resistance and wear resistance, where oxidation wear and slight abrasive wear predominating. This work explored the feasibility and detailed effects of Ti3SiC2 and Cu for enhancing the Stellite3 composite coatings.
