Abstract

Abstract The paper presents some experiments concerning the thixotropic consolidation process in sedimentary clay, its speed variation with temperature. Regaining of shear strength when a molded sample is kept undisturbed and protected from evaporation at different temperatures, increases with rising temperature, the speed difference between + 4° C and + 90° C being some 100 times. The reason must be the increased thermal agitation of water, accelerating the arrangement within the clay-water system.
