Abstract

summary The purposes of this paper are to provide: a) a biomechanical and physiological analysis of steer wrestling and to b) describe a 1-year hypothetical periodization plan for the individualized preparation of the college rodeo athlete for the event of steer wrestling. The periodized training schedule consists of 6 mesocycles and the uses of traditional strength training exercises as well as exercises unique to the sport of steer wrestling are presented.
