Abstract

Publisher Summary This chapter describes standards for steel pipes and flanges. There are two series of British Standards for metric pipes, flanges, and fittings that are not interchangeable. The first series is based on International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) recommendations and German (DIN) standards using ISO metric bolts and nuts. The second series is based on the standards of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). These are inch standards converted to exact metric equivalents using ISO inch (Unified) bolts and nuts. The pipe outside diameter sizes, however, are included in ISO/R64 and ISO/R336 and in the range of nominal sizes above 150 mm are (apart from tolerances) the same as those in first series. The pipe-wall thicknesses are not included in ISO recommendations. ANSI standards are established in common use throughout the world (except the USSR and Eastern Europe) in producing and refining activities, and in many instances, ISO is considering their adoption as the bases of ISO standards.
