Abstract

Abstract A systematic procedure is developed for the consideration of flexible connections in steel frame design. An analytical model for the prediction of nonlinear M‐ϕ curves of semi‐rigid steel beam‐to‐column connections is developed using the nonlinear finite element method. Simplified design guidelines are suggested for the design of flexibly jointed frames with the concepts of beam line stiffness and moment transferring ratio. The applications of this versatile method are explained by several related examples.
