Abstract

When activated carbon is used in a thermal swing adsorption process, it may be regenerated by a hot inert gas or by steam. Preliminary experiments with steam (and without removal of an adsorbate) showed intermediate axial temperatures to be higher than inlet or exit temperatures. It was concluded that the heat of adsorption of water is the primary source of energy for the regeneration step of thermal swing adsorption involving steaming.
