Abstract

The solution for the temperature profile is obtained on the basis of the superposition principle or by the use of Green's function when the wall temperature (or heat flux) profile is a function of axial distance in a section between two infinitely long uniform temperature (or adiabatic) wall inlet and outlet sections. It is confirmed that the solution satisfies numerically the matching conditions which are imposed on the temperature and its axial derivative at each end of the main heat transfer section. In addition, it is suggested that the expansion theory employed here can be generalized easily for a generalized Sturm-Liouville system.
