Abstract

A method of solution is presented for thermal stresses caused by either steady-state or transient heat flow in an internally heated tube. The heat conduction equations are solved by the method of finite differences and are programmed for solution by high-speed digital computers. By coding the problem for computers of this type, thermal stresses for tubes of different materials, thermal properties, and heat-generation histories are readily attainable. (auth)
