Abstract

In this paper, a steady-state voltage gain and efficiency analysis of a step-up boost converter for renewable energy systems are investigated. They are studied in two modes, continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode. In the research, the parasitic resistance of the inductor is considered, and also DC-link output voltage is fixed by the post stage power conditioner. In that case, the voltage gain curve in continuous conduction mode is monotonic quite different from that of a conventional boost converter which is non-monotonic due to the parasitic resistance. Numerical analyses and experimental measurements show the distinguished steady-state characteristics of the step-up boost converter with renewable energy sources from the conventional boost converter.
