Abstract

Abstract A new numerical method to analyze steady thermal stresses in two-dimensional problems is proposed. Thermoelastic displacement potential is introduced for the analysis. The discontinuities of stresses on the boundary are investigated, and a completely analytic formulation is carried out. In order to investigate the accuracy of this method, steady thermal stress distributions in a square column and a circular cylinder with an eccentric circular hole are obtained.
