Abstract

This paper presents the steady state power flow analysis of the traditional unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) and battery integrated UPQC during voltage sag and swell events in the distribution network. The UPQC improves the power quality of the distribution network at point of common coupling (PCC). In battery integrated UPQC, battery is connected to the dc-link capacitor via a bi-directional dc to dc converter. Steady state power flow analysis are useful for deciding the kVA rating of the shunt and series APFs. Comparing to the traditional UPQC, battery integrated UPQC reduces the rating of the shunt APF and also improves the voltage quality behind the PCC during voltage sag and swell. These analysis are validated using the MATLAB/SIMULINK software results.
