Abstract

The steady state behavior of nonautonomous systems of two coupled nonlinear oscillators with small internal damping is analyzed by numerical integration of the motion equations, by varying the frequency of the periodical external excitation. A variety of periodic, quasi-periodic and chaotic oscillations are detected, whose properties are examined by means of Poincaré mappings, Lyapunov exponents spectra and fractal dimension measurements.
