Abstract
The heat transfer within a flat plate electric conductor crossed by an alternating electric current is analysed. The power generated per unit volume within the conductor is determined by taking into account the skin effect. An analytic expression of the dimensionless temperature distribution within the plate in steady periodic regime is obtained. It is shown that, as the frequency of the electric current increases, the amplitude of the temperature oscillations tends to zero very rapidly and the time averaged temperature distribution tends to become uniform.
