Abstract

n the present paper, the two-dimensional problem involving the steady motion of four parallel rigid strips moving on the free surface of a semi-infinite isotropic elastic medium has been considered. The problem of determining the unknown stress distribution just below the strips has been converted to the determination of the solution of quadruple integral equations by the use of Fourier transform. An exact solution of these integral equations has been found by the application of the finite Hilbert transform. Stress just below the strips and displacement outside the strips have been obtained in closed form. Finally, the nature of stress intensity factors at the edges of the strips has been depicted by means of graphs.
