Abstract

Objective To explore the nursing students'cognition level of transcultural nursing and its influencing factors based on which the basis and proposals for the courses.Methods The questionnaire was revised based on the questionnaire of investigating nurses serving international patients (including five dimensions) .207 nursing students were enrolled in the present study from 6 schools.The data were statistically analyzed.Results The total score of transcultural nursing was ( 179.17 ± 15.552), with the scores of theory being the loweat (26.11 ±7.893) .There were significant differences of the scores among students who spent different studying hours in the following 3aspects: total, theory and privacy protecting (P <0.01, P <0.01, P <0.05) .And the level of their scores was positively correlated with the studying hours in the following 3 aspects: total, theory and language (P <0.01, P <0.01, P <0.05) .There were significant differences of the scores between students from comprehensive colleges and from specialized colleges in the following 3 aspects: theory, religion and privacy protecting (P <0.01, P <0.01, P <0.05) .Scores of students with college degree-were significantly higher than those with university degree in the following 3 aspects: total, theory and language ( P < 0.05, P < 0.01, P < 0.01 ) .There were significant differences of scores between students of different English levels (P <0.01, P <0.05) .The theory scores of those who had learnt transcultural nursing were significantly higher than those who hadn l (P < 0.01 ) .Scores of students from top first-class hospitals were significantly higher than those from secondary hospitals in the following 3 aspects: theory, religion and diet ( P < 0.01, P < 0.01, P < 0.05 ) .Concluslons The cognitive level of students'transcultural nursing needs to be improved urgently and related measures should be adopted to fill the gap of transcultural nursing.
