Abstract

AbstractBecause of the short time the synthetic soil conditioners have been available for test, it is not possible to draw other than tentative conclusions. However, it appears fairly evident that they can effect marked improvement in the physical state of soils if properly applied. Rates of application of the order of 0.05% are such that at current prices the usefulness of these products in agriculture is likely to be limited to surface application with high value crops or for special purposes. It is not likely that they will constitute a replacement for, but will be an important supplement to sound agricultural practices. A sound body of information on which to base recommended procedures for the great variety of crops and soils found in the country at large is gradually accumulating because of the widespread interest of agronomists and others in this latest development from the field of chemistry.
