Abstract

Objective To understand the status quo of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nurses' awareness of patient safety culture and its influencing factors, and to provide reference for nursing managers to formulate effective nursing measures to improve ICU nursing service quality. Methods Using convenience sampling method, 318 nurses in ICU Departments of 5 general hospitals in He'nan province from March to May 2018 were selected as subjects. General Information Questionnaire, Hospital Survey of Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC) , Professional Self-Concept of Nurses Instrument (PSCNI) and Conditions of Work Effectiveness Questionnaire-Ⅱ (CWEQ-Ⅱ) were used to investigate them. The influencing factors of patient safety culture awareness in the ICU nurses were analyzed. Results The ICU nurses' patient safety culture score was (154.34±29.02) and the average score of the items was (3.67±0.69) . Regression analysis showed that the ICU nurses' title, professional attitude, job assignment and the number of night shifts per month were the influencing factors of patient safety culture (P<0.05) . Conclusions ICU nurses need to improve the awareness of patient safety culture. It is suggested that nursing managers should intervene in the aspects of ICU nurses' title, professional attitude, work assignment and number of night shifts per month to improve ICU nurses' awareness of patient safety culture.
