Abstract

This invited study sought to determine the current status of women in socialwork education for the special section of the Journal of Social Work Education.Analysis of the latest data available indicate that gender differences remain pervasiveacross many aspects of social work education, including pay, rank, jobduties, and tenure. Women appear disadvantaged in almost all areas analyzedwhen compared to men. Additionally, pilot study data collected in Canada suggestthat women academics are similarly disadvantaged. The article concludeswith a discussion of the limitations of available data, broader contextual issuesfor women in social work, and suggestions for implementing change.
