Abstract

The status of the NASA tunable solid state laser program will be reviewed as a follow on to the overview presented since the last tunable solid state laser workshop. Three program themes will be presented including: 1) tunable solid state laser technology·2) LASE (Laser Atmospheric Sensing Experiment) 3) LITE (Laser in Space Technology Experiment). In addition· recent system level requirements for lidar systems technology which have emerged over the past year for the environmental observations systems platform will be presented and related to the technology program currently being implemented. The proximity operations workshop was conducted in February·1985. Implications for a laser radar system to conduct berthing and docking experiments from the Shuttle Orbiter and for providing range and range rate measurements will be reviewed.
