Abstract

The majority of state aviation agencies in the United States use airport Pavement Management Systems (APMS) to store pavement inventory and condition data. Most of these states have monitored pavement inventory and condition through these APMS databases for many years, and the large majority of these states store that information in the PAVER™ software. The authors have tapped into this valuable resource of information and compiled thirty-four state PAVER™ databases plus information from one state containing inventory and performance information pertaining to 2,189 airports in the U.S. The collected data were used to investigate overall statistics such as pavement area, pavement age, and condition at the state, climatic region, and national levels. The data were also used to evaluate the deterioration rates of pavements based on age versus Pavement Condition Index (PCI) data. These deterioration rates were categorized by airport classification, pavement use, pavement type, and geographic region.
