Abstract

The practical definition of Status Epilepticus (SE) is any seizure that is >5 min in duration or multiple discrete seizures between which there is inadequate recovery. SE in children is a common and life-threatening complication that challenges practitioners worldwide, from primary to tertiary care. SE can have different semiologies with generalized convulsive SE (CSE) being the most common. Further seizures that do not self-terminate within 5 min (or recur repeatedly) are less likely to do so without therapeutic intervention.
