Abstract

I thank SEG President Jamie Robertson for use of this space to discuss the status and future growth of near-surface geophysics. I firmly believe in its potential and hope this article convinces skeptics who may be unaware of recent developments or dramatic growth in the field. (By “near-surface” geophysics I mean primarily environmental geophysics, geotechnical and engineering geophysics, and mining geophysics.)
