Abstract

We present the statistics of signal to noise ratio (SNR) for an indoor visible light communication (VLC) system with a random waypoint mobility model. This letter is based on the fact that the distance between the VLC access point and the mobile user terminal is a random variable. Thus, the instantaneous SNR also becomes a random variable. We derive novel closed form expressions for the probability density function, cumulative distribution function, and moment generating function of the instantaneous SNR. Capitalizing on the derived expression, we evaluate the closed form expressions of performance metrics, such as outage probability and average bit-error rate, for the considered system with on-off keying. Finally, numerical results are discussed and the impact of various VLC parameters on the performance of system is also analyzed.
