Abstract

Poor communication between industrial employees could be a factor contributing to Britain's relative economic decline. If this is so, we statisticians must accept our share of the responsibility, for we are not perceived by our clients as good communicators. The expectations of the industrial client are discussed and recommendations are made concerning the teaching of statistics to both statisticians and potential clients.
