Abstract

Statistical reasoning ability is the ability to make conclusions and give explanations based on data orientation using structured rules, unstructured rules, and statistical concepts and provides critical comments on a process or statistical results. Students have different statistical reasons. One of the causes is their learning styles. McCarthy developed a learning style known as the 4MAT System learning style. The 4MAT System learning style is namely innovative learner styles, analytic learner learning styles, common sense learner learning styles, and dynamic learner learning styles. The purpose of this study is to find out the students’ statistical reasoning abilities based on the 4MAT System learning style. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The research subjects took eight students from the grade VIII students of SMP N 1 Mojoanyar, Mojokerto, and each learning style consisted of two subjects. Data collection is through tests and interviews after that. It based on indicators of statistical reasoning ability. The students with the 4MAT system learn the learning styles in mathematical problem solving and the indicators of statistical reasoning ability. Subjects with an innovative learning style think directly about given routine problems. Subjects with an analytic learning style learners systematic thinking that adapted to conceptual and knowledge they have done before. Subjects with a common style also plan to solve systematically based on concepts learned. However, subjects with dynamic learner learning styles find problems based on intuition or premonition.
