Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the various basic statistical properties of speckle patterns. We will basically follow Goodman [22] with some additions concerning dynamic speckle behaviour. Two main functions, namely, the probability density functions (PDF) and correlation functions (CFs) will be introduced and used for the statistical description of a speckle pattern.
