Abstract

One can only welcome the appearance in Russian translation of important works by foreign authors on problems of statistics. Judging by the number of publications brought from its presses in the very recent past, the Gosstatizdat has begun large-scale and systematic work in this direction. Soviet statisticians will also greet with interest the appearance in Russian translation of F. Mills' book Statistical Methods, whichhas gone through several editions in the United States and Great Britain. The book is organized into 19 chapters and a number of special appendices. After a very brief presentation in the first chapter of the author's general views as to the object of statistics, the volume proceeds, in the second chapter, to describe graphic expressions, and to the third, which is devoted to the technique of grouping statistical data.
