Abstract
Reduced electromagnetic transition matrix elements were determined for levels in 26Al from the ground state to 8 MeV. In this energy region in 26Al, states with isospin 0 and 1 coexist, and isospin is approximately 97% conserved. These data provide the first test of the effect of symmetry breaking on the transition matrix element distribution. The experimental distribution deviates significantly from the Porter-Thomas distribution.
