Abstract

A factorial design is applied to assess the influence of the processing and experimental parameters on digital image analysis results. Microstructures of cast iron with nodular, vermicular and lamelar graphite were evaluated with different luminosity, minimum particle number and different operators. We conclude that some parameters can significantly influence the final results of quantitative metallography and the statistical design of experiments technique is highly effective for this type of evaluation.
