Abstract

Sets of data suitable for analysis by statistical methods, and of general interest and long term value, in machine-readable form, are rapidly accumulating from many sources. University research libraries are appropriate agencies to bibliographically control, collect, conserve, and circulate such data sets. Special problems for libraries relating to the acquisition, technical processing, and circulation of statistical data sets are considered and solutions are suggested. PL/I is recommended as a programming language for library use.
