Abstract

Non-motorized transportation mode accounts for a very high proportion in most cities in China, especially bicycle. This paper analyzed characteristics of pedestrian and bicycle, which are main components of non-motorized transportation. Comparison of relevant research and a case study with stated preference and revealed preference data survey were presented. Non-motorized transportation mode choice behavior was analyzed considering influence of trip purpose, distance and car availability. Firstly, the impact of trip purpose to travel mode choice was investigated. Secondly, optimum and threshold distance of walking and bicycle was obtained respectively by fitting analysis. Finally, the influence of car availability to mode choice was discussed by comparing statistical data with and without car availability. The case study suggested that the most acceptable distances for pedestrian and bicycle were respectively 1 kilometer and 4 kilometers. And non-motorized transportation should act as an effective transfer mode for access and egress journey related to a railway station.
