Abstract

Power impairments due to stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) are evaluated in wideband wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems. We extend previous work on statistical analysis of SRS crosstalk so that it takes not only pump power depletion but also Stokes power amplification into account. We derive simple closed-form formulae that can evaluate SRS crosstalk of all WDM channels accurately and can specify the worst channel from among all WDM channels. The validity of our approach is confirmed by comparison to the split-step Fourier method. The developed approach can evaluate the power impairments due to SRS quite accurately with very little calculation, and can be applied to almost all WDM systems.
