Abstract

We report on an approach to determine the number of optical emitters based on establishing the proper relationship between the statistics of implanted ions and the signal from optical centers (e.g. photoluminescence) collected at different points in the sample. Knowing the number of implanted ions, one can estimate the probability for an ion to create an optical center—the conversion efficiency. The micro-luminescence mapping and statistical analyses were performed on a model Xe optical center in diamond and the conversion efficiency was estimated to be about 30%.
