Abstract

Subject. We address the provision of medical personnel in the healthcare system. Objectives. The purpose is to perform a statistical analysis of indicators of the provision of medical personnel in the Northwestern Federal District. Methods. The study employs official statistics of the Rosstat for the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. We processed statistical data by calculating the proportion of the number of doctors by specialty in the total number of medical personnel, performed a trend analysis of indicators, used descriptive statistics methods. Results. In the Northwestern Federal District, the general indicator of the provision of doctors per 10 thousand people tended to increase. On the basis of a comparative analysis of the provision of specialist doctors in individual regions, i.e. the Arkhangelsk and Kaliningrad Oblasts, we note that the provision with doctors in the Arkhangelsk Oblast is higher than in the Kaliningrad Oblast. In these areas, the highest availability of doctors is observed among therapeutic, dental and surgical specialists. At the same time, there is a general trend for the Northwestern Federal District in reducing the percentage of doctors of the first and the highest qualification category, and increasing the salaries of medical personnel. Conclusions. To retain medical personnel in the considered Federal District, it is important to create a stable health care system, based on balanced number of medical personnel, and develop a mechanism for competent distribution of medical specialties.
