Abstract

Low-level wind shear, which is featured by strong burstiness, short time and high intensity, imposes tremendous threats to the flight safety and it is a major dangerous factor affecting the takeoff and landing of aircrafts. In order to analyze and cope with low-level wind shear, the QAR big data from the FOQA Station of CAAC were used in this study to statistically analyze the monitored low-level wind shear warning events. It was found that the wind shear events mainly occurred in April and May every year, 7-8 and 4-5 UTC, and the flight phase was the final approach phase. Moreover, it involved various geographic areas, such as Yunnan Province, Guangdong Province, Jiangsu Province, Beijing and Shanghai, mainly occurring at Kunming Changshui Airport, Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport and Lhasa Gongga Airport. Meanwhile, the related flight parameters upon the occurrence of low-level wind shear warning events were analyzed, like the concentrated distribution area, maximum value and mean value of pitch, roll, airspeed, wind speed, wind direction, head, vertical overload and angle of attack. In the end, several suggestions for coping with low-level wind shear were proposed. The above analysis contents are expected to facilitate airlines to ensure the flight safety.
