Abstract

The determination of stationary states of a physiological system is carried out via the generalized evolution criterion (GEC). A global mathematical model for the sodium-potassium pump between the plasma and the red blood cell compartments is presented. Computer results show that the model predicts stationary states of [K+] and [Na+] in the red blood cell compartment of adult human males within 1.38% and 4.65%, respectively.
