Abstract

In this paper we consider the incompressible limit of the general development presented in Woodward and McKenzie [ Planet. Space Sci. 42, 463–479, 1994], who analyze the system of stationary waves generated by a point source current immersed in a flowing magnetoplasma including Hall current effects. There are two wave modes present in this limit, namely the fast and slow modes, both of which are semi-fieldaligned, and the slow mode experiences a resonance at the proton gyrofrequency. In contrast to the compressible situation, the magnetic pressure perturbation displays a Laplacian decay in addition to the characteristics of the fast and slow modes. Furthermore in the very sub-Alfvénic flow limit, the parallel current and magnetic pressure disturbances together with the associated electric potential perturbation are predominantly of fast mode character.
