Abstract

Lipid-lowering therapy with a statin is recommended for all patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and has been shown to improve morbidity and mortality. However, the effect of statins on perioperative outcomes in patients undergoing lower extremity open bypass procedures has not been extensively investigated. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of statins on amputation risk and major adverse cardiac events (defined as the composite of myocardial infarction, stroke, and death) in patients with PAD undergoing open lower extremity revascularization.
