Abstract

The behaviour of a laminated composite spherical shell cap with piezoelectric layerssubjected to external static load and electrical potential is investigated using the finiteelement method based on first-order shear deformation theory. An eight-node degeneratedisoparametric shell element with five degrees of freedom at each node is considered. Thecontrol of deflection and stresses in a laminated composite spherical shell capwith piezoelectric actuators subjected to external load and electrical potential isinvestigated. Results are presented for the control of deflection and stresses of simplysupported and clamped laminated composite spherical shell caps with piezoelectricactuators subjected to uniform normal pressure by applying an electrical potential.
