Abstract

1. 1.|Cold units innervating human hairy skin were studied by extracellular recordings from the superficial branch of the radial nerve. 2. 2.|All cold units showed a spontaneous discharge at normal skin temperatures of about 30 C. 3. 3.|The static activity of 4 cold units was a function of constant skin temperature between 17 and 35 C. with frequency maxima between 22 and 28 C. 4. 4.|The dynamic response analysed in 2 units varied with amplitude and velocity of the cold stimulus. 5. 5.|Mechanical stimulation of the receptive field did not influence the activity of the cold units.
