Abstract

The pressure volume (P/V) curve of the respiratory system has been used for many years to describe the mechanical characteristics of the lungs in the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) [1–3] and more recently as a guide to modify the ventilatory settings at the bedside and limit lung damage related to mechanical ventilation [4–8].
