Abstract

Translational energy spectroscopy has been used in conjunction with highly dissociated hydrogen in a tungsten tube furnace to determine the main collision channels in electron capture by 4.2-12 keV O3+ and 1.8-14.1 keV Ne3+ recoil ions in atomic hydrogen. Multichannel Landau-Zener (MCLZ) calculations for capture into individual product ion states have also been performed and shown to be in reasonable general accord with the measurements. Comparisons have also been made with the results of recent fully quantal calculations. The latter, in the case of O3+-H collisions, are at variance with both the measurements and MCLZ calculations.
