Abstract

In the first measurements of their type, the authors demonstrate the feasibility of the use of energy loss/gain spectroscopy in conjunction with a tungsten tube furnace for studies of state-selective capture by multiply-charged ions in atomic hydrogen. For electron capture by 8 keV N2+ in H the authors identify the main excited product channels and determine cross sections for the formation of N+ in the 3Do and 3Po states.
