Abstract

Examinations of the 99Tc(d, t) and 99Tc(p, d) reactions have been made at bombarding energies of 15 and 19 Me V respectively using the injector-tandem accelerator and the multichannel magnetic spectrograph at the University of Oxford. Twenty-six new levels have been established with excitation energies between 0.43 and 1.32 MeV. Angular distributions have been measured for transitions in both reactions up to an excitation energy of approximately 1.3 MeV. Theoretical distributions have been calculated using DWBA analyses and orbital angular momentum transfers and spectroscopic factors have been deduced by comparing these calculations with the experimental data. The results of the (d, t) and (p, d) reactions yield spectroscopic factors in close agreement with each other and together constitute the first reported information on neutron excitations in 98Tc. The summed spectroscopic factors for l n = 2 and l n = 0 transitions indicate that the 2 d 5 2 and 3 s 1 2 neutron Subshells are occupie ground state of 99Te to the extents of about 70 % and 13 % respectively.
