Abstract

The feasibility of monolithic integration together with low EMI and simple control makes switched-capacitor (SC) voltage regulator an attractive power solution to Internet of Things (IoTs). Recent research studies have demonstrated that ultra-low power SC voltage regulators can effectively reduce system cost, operate in wide input range and interface with energy harvesters. This paper presents an overview on state-of-the-art design techniques for these SC voltage regulators, including the solutions of self-startup with very low input voltage, reconfigurable SC topologies and energy harvesting implementations. The review aims to serve as a reference for future’s IoT power supply designs.
